The Rose Society of Northern Ireland was founded in 1964. The Society aims to advance the education of the public in the conservation and cultivation of roses.

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of our President, Arthur Dixon, after a short illness.
Arthur was a truly knowledgeable rosarian who recently completed his 58th International Rose Trial at Lady Dixon Park, Belfast.
Warm, kind and generous, Arthur also shared his love and knowledge of roses well beyond these shores – throughout Britain, across Europe and beyond – visiting Rose Trials around the world and making lifelong friends.
We will truly miss him and his infectious enthusiasm for all things roses.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his wife Catherine, his daughters, Julie and Kirsty and his wide circle of family and friends.
The Funeral Service will take place in Seagoe Parish Church on Friday 31st July 2026 at 12.00 noon, followed by interment in the adjoining Churchyard.

Judging at the City of Belfast International Rose Trials
The City of Belfast International Rose Trials began in 1965 and have continued to be held annually thanks to the cooperartion between Belfast City Council and The Rose Society of Northern Ireland.
The trials are conducted in Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park.
